Psychological therapy

Therapy is a very personal experience and it takes courage to seek help. My approach is warm, compassionate, and supportive. It is important to me that you feel comfortable and safe in our sessions together.

Psychology sessions are focused on your needs. We can explore together what is troubling you, how the problems may have developed, and what you would like for your life. Our evolving understanding of your unique circumstances can help us to think together about psychological strategies to help with making the changes you desire.

Therapy is a partnership. I bring my knowledge of psychology and you bring your understanding of your unique life circumstances. This allows us to work together to explore strategies, techniques and insights to help you lead a more fulfilling and enriching life.

Sessions build upon each other and change takes time. Learning takes place within sessions and through exploration of ideas outside of sessions. At the end of your sessions it is likely you will have developed a deeper sense of self-understanding, as well as a tailored toolkit of psychological strategies to help you to feel confident in continuing towards a fulfilling and enriching life.

I believe people are unique and I work integratively to draw on a number of evidence-informed therapies to offer a bespoke approach to meet your needs. These include Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT). I also draw upon ideas from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Psychology appointments can be offered through Zoom video calling or by telephone. There can be many benefits to meeting in this way:

  • You can attend sessions from a comfortable, private, location of your choice.

  • It may be more possible to meet at a time that is convenient for you.

  • Remote sessions can be particularly helpful if you have a busy schedule with work, family, study or other commitments.

  • Remote sessions can limit the need for travel, with associated reductions in travel time and cost.

  • Appointments can be accessed from wherever you are in the UK, as long as you have phone and internet connection.

  • This can be particularly convenient in allowing you to attend regular sessions if you travel frequently or are based in another part of the country.

There are steps you can take to arrange sessions to help you to feel comfortable and to allow sessions to run smoothly. We can talk this through and I am happy to help with any questions that you might have. I have also put together some more information and tips to prepare for remote appointments here, which I hope you will find helpful

Please contact me if you would like to find out more or to arrange an appointment.
